Robust, strong, solid, tough…these are just a few of the words that’ll describe the Navy 44 sailboats built for the United States Naval Academy’s Sailing Team! The hull and deck are 100% fiberglass, the chain plates are thick, Harken hardware all over the boat. I had ALERT marine inspected by a marine surveyor in May 2022 and all he could comment to me was how solid and well built ALERT is. Neither the hull or the deck had soft spots or any indication of delamination. ALERT is NA-06 of the Mk I Navy 44’s built for the USNA Sailing Team during the late 1980’s built by Tillotson-Pearson. There is a LOT of information on the Naval Academy website that has proven to be helpful for myself and will be for you too. Here is their website for reference: https://www.usna.edu/Sailing/Training/index.php I bought ALERT in May 2022 and have since put a lot of work getting it ready for the water. The air conditioner works great with the new thermostat I bought. The previous owner gutted and stripped the boat then lost interest. I still have the interest but not the time. When I can, I’ve been piecing it back together getting it ready for my family to enjoy. Funny what life brings your way…I need to spend more time with the business my wife and I just started and have found it very difficult to get away from town. It doesn’t make sense for us to keep her anymore. We are sad to sell as she’s so close to being able to take out on the water for day sailing! The engine is a Westerbeke 40 and is freshly rebuilt with only a couple minutes of run total run time. It’ll start right up! In the name of transparency, and to give you an idea of what still needs fixed on the boat, I created a short list of items that need attention that are known to myself. Known areas in need of immediate attention:Needs a heat exchanger, water elbow, and raw water pump for the engine. I’ve located these parts online.Needs a mainsail. I’ve found several fairly priced used mainsails online.Electric bilge pump works great but manual pumps do not. I haven’t diagnosed this problem yet, could be a simple fix.Navigation lights are on the boat but are not attached. Known areas in need of near future attention:Windows leak and need fasteners and sealant installed.Unused holes in deck need filled to prevent leaks.Needs a mast boot.Engine electrical needs connected for easier starting operation and gauges.Need battery for electronics while under sail. Known areas in need of attention a lot further down wind for comfort and usability:Head needs installedGalley assembly (sink, stove/oven, etc)Cabin assembly (cabinets, beds, shelves, door installs, etc.) I have many of the interior and remaining exterior components in my garage/shop. More pictures available upon request! I have both a clean Texas title and registration in hand! The marina slip is transferable to the new owner. Some of the items included but not pictured here:Upgraded range/oven from the originalSinkHeadDoorsUpgraded navigation instruments 11 Sails of various size and shape (all recently inspected and repaired by C & C Sailmakers in Houston, TX)New deck treadCushions for cockpit seatsMany lines/ropesDodger frame and canvasInflatable dinghy (needs transom replacement)New hatchLots of wood and trim pieces from interiorAnchor with 1″ x 200′ rope Please let me know if you have questions and I’ll do my best to answer in a timely manner. I have what I believe to be a fair reserve price on this auction. If the sale price doesn’t reach the reserve, I’ll most likely let it go for the high bid. ALERT is available to view in person. Contact me for making arrangements. Thanks for stopping by!
