You are looking at a Classic Mako 23 Offshore Center Console Fishing boat with a newly repowered Yamaha 225TX with a New Powerhead. No expense was spared when restoring and updating this classic boat in 2009. The boat was completely dismantled, with the deck removed from the hull in order to restore it as new. Text Anthony at 407-399-9287 with questions. In the early 1970s, Miami builder Mako Marine was making a big splash with small fishing boats and that catchy slogan. One of its models was a departure from the norm. The Mako 23 was a 23-foot center console offered as an inboard, stern drive, or outboard power. In fact, up to 235-hp was available in outboard versions, or 225-hp gas and diesel versions that gave the boat a cruising speed in the upper 20s and a top end around 47 mph. Mako was known for its capable fishing boats, which eventually included walkarounds and express models, and the company publicized its fleet by holding tournaments. The Mako 23 was a hit with anglers. The Deep V hull with generous bow flare gave the boat a different ride in rough water than other hulls. The center of gravity was farther forward and low, and the boat developed a reputation for offshore work. The low-slung hull had a flared bow and was buoyed with foam flotation. The wide console had a wood-trimmed helm and twin pedestal seats behind a big windshield. There was rod stowage on the console, rod holders along the gunwales and a raised casting platform forward. The self-bailing cockpit had a clean, uncluttered transom from which to fight fish, a built-in fishbox and teak covering boards. Options ran the gamut, from full canvas to a portable head. Today, the 1978 Mako 23 is a classic. It is one of the models that helped popularize the center console design perhaps Americas most popular fishing boat. This particular Mako 23 has been updated with no expense spared. With the deck removed, the hull was gutted and reengineered with a brand new wiring harness and with updated NMMA compliant specifications. All new foam was installed into the structure, and a new poly fuel tank was sourced and installed. The transom was stiffened and supports were added and integrated into the stringer system to properly support the full transom bracket. A new switch panel with modern illuminated rocker switches, multi power points, and digital engine instruments were also added. Lastly, a Marine Stereo with an IP66 water rating and a Lowrance 7″ GPS were added. The entire hull was hand sanded and blocked to reveal a mirror like finish, as the pictures show. SeaFoam Green AwlCraft paint adorns the hull sides, and is tastefully integrated with the interior non-skid. The full transom bracket extends the propeller aft of the running surface to give the hull great performance with the ability to trim the hull in following seas. The original helm seats were removed and replaced with a custom fiberglass topped Aluminum base Lean Post, complete with rod holders. Above, a Custom Aluminum T Top adds comfort and utility, with LED Spreader Lights, Rocket Launchers, LED Courtesy Lights, and an overhead Radio Box. The lids and fish boxes were completely finished, and a SeaDeck anti-fatigue mat was installed at the helm for comfort. The Four Stroke Yamaha F225 performed with years of faithful service, and had a Brand New Power Head installed under warranty in 2014. The engine currently has around 400 hours on the power head, but still operates flawlessly, with perfect oil pressure, and no warning lights or codes. It has recently been complimented with a 2022 Brand New Aluminum Dual Axle Trailer. This Classic 1978 Mako was extensively refitted in 2009 with no costs spared.
