Ladies and Gentlemen, if you have made it this far you are looking for some context about MOJO RISING. I would be the second owner of this vessel, the original owner had it from the factory until I purchased it from him in 03′ being that he was eighty years old. He was involved with sales for Spectra boats in the 70’s setting up client test drives, this particular vessel was the top of the line showroom floor models for 79′, and he decided to keep it. This model is said to be the 57′ Chevy of boats, and one of the most copied hulls due to the efficiency, stability, as well as its capability which would of course made it a shoo-in to be one of a very few boats featured in Playboy during the 70’s “Hay Day.” Spectra boats were rocking the offshore racing circuit during this time and must have been the reason why it is equipped with 8″-10″ stringers which run the entire length of the vessel (none of which are infected or contaminated in any way). And as for the exterior paint and gelcoat, they are showing signs of wear after having been ridden hard and wet for 40+years, although when not experiencing that, she has been kept covered under a parking structure. Regarding the patina of the paint, I would consider this a top of mind priority for myself IF and it “depends on what your definition of the word IF is” IF I was keeping…… but nay, since I am not, having almost half a dozen people join me at the lake anymore (boat seats 10 by the way) many of them which were female, I was inclined along the way for the sake of wanting to “Party” upgraded the stereo to 2/ 10″ Fosgate subwoofers powered by 1000 watts, as well as 6/ Dual 6″x9″ speakers also powered by 100 watts, giving it that full rich sound all why tucked away. The interior wouldn’t be complete without its DEEP RED SHAG, yes the original shag carpet even on the ceiling in the sleeping quarters, which is also equipped with an emergency removable toilet “potty). Upholstery is original and it shows, has a great 40+ year old patina, the floor boards and all stringers are solid and are not contaminated or infected in any way. The carpet on the floorboards has been replaced twice in the 20 years that I have owned this and my, if these carpets could talk…… As for the powertrain this “man-size toy” which is what someone once said when walking by after asking if it had a V8? This particular V8 engine, is a Chevrolet 454 bored .014 to 468 with Merlin rectangle port heads, a Holley 850 perched atop Holley Street Dominator High Rise manifold, leading down to the exhaust manifold logs (which have been powder coated) and rounding off with all of the hoses for the plumbing, being replaced within the last 5 years. All of these accoutrements ENDOW this MASSIVE engine to push 500 HP into a bright orange bell housing of a street glide 2 speed TRANSMISSION….. transmission….. yes, during all my 30 years of boating I have not crossed paths with another boat with a transmission, this would make it the only boat I’ve seen or heard for that matter on any lake out of the several states in the US (ALL FRESH WATER) this transmission comes in very handy to THRUST itself out of the hole FASTER when pulling skiers or tubing. The wake created by this 2 ton MOBY DICK is AWESOME for that slow pumping, carving, surfing behind her as its V is rather deep. The transmissions U joints are connected to the V-Drive (new fluids) sporting a balanced shaft, spinning a Harold Kinsvadder variable prop (great all around prop, both acceleration and top speed) close to $1,000 on its own. All of this is supplied fuel by the TWO (2) DOCE 45 gallon, sealed and intact Aluminum fuel cells The trailer is custom made for the boat, with a tandem axle that has had the brake reservoir rebuilt, bearings have been greased and packed over the years, bearing buddy units as well. All rims are aluminum including spare and all tires have low miles. Boards on the trailer have been replaced and carpeted, all lights are working. Trailer is 9 out of 10. My 2 cents, which is only worth a penny, would be to touch up the paint and interior and call it a day. I hope it will bring you as many memories as it has afforded me.
