This was my COVID coach and I drove it back and forth across the country twice during the pandemic. I can’t say it wasn’t without a hitch because even though it had 10,951 original miles on it when I bought it, it’s still a 1999 Rialta. At this point , I know the vehicle inside and out , have fixed or updated just about everything that needs to be fixed or updated. It is So original, I really did not want to do anything that would dramatically customize it so that it could maintain some collector value due to its age. Everything I changed had to do with function, operation and safety. I would have no qualms at all about getting into this camper and doing 2 laps around the country right now. It is really truly like driving a brand new vehicle. It was originally purchased by a California couple and it spent its first 10,000 miles in a garage in Riverside California. I originally purchased this camper for just under $32,000 in eBay motors in June of 2020. That was even before the prices started to climb but of course it only had 10,951 miles on it. IT was touted as being BRAND NEW and a bunch of other crap like that. It was NOT BRAND NEW. It was Original though. It came with, and still comes with its original cover from Winnebago (still very useful but it has been used) . It has its original PURPLE graphics from Winnebago that may be slightly fading but once you put some wax on, they just POP. It comes with an awning that I’m not sure if its after market or not, but its Matching Purple and it has the matching drape panels that go along the outside of the awning. I really do not think they were ever used or installed and that is why they are pictured laid out rather than hanging. It looks like AUSTIN POWERS is going to jump out of it.I digress ………………….. but I love its originality and its just such a cool vehicle that I cannot help itHere is what went wrong when I first purchased it, dry rotted tires, learned a lesson there, all new now. The second thing that went wrong with this once purchased, was my second lesson, old gas vs new gas. We started putting ethanol in gasoline in this country since this was first built. Of course, this literally destroyed the old fuel pump that was not built for Ethanol and left us stranded in Kansas. For that reason, we have completely updated the fuel system and it drives like a top. The bright side of that is that when we put it up on a lift to drop the gas tank, I got to inspect the bottom on the RV. It was already so clean that you could eat off of it, and we continue to maintain it that way since. There is ZERO Rust on this vehicle, it was garage kept in the high desert. The 3rd major thing was, that at some point in time, a branch or something fell onto a skylight up top and cracked it. That led to water dripping down in the walls and shorting out a few things. From that alone we fixed the following:- Inner and outer skylights – Generator that originally had 0.9 hours when I purchased it- Generator circuit board- refrigerator circuit board- AC circuit board- breakers I know there is something else that I’m forgettingThis camper is being sold AS IS with the information provided . This is a great working camper but its from 1999 and if Winnebago is not going to guarantee it and VW is not going to guarantee it then it does not make sense for me to. I love this thing and trust it for a road trip but even used gently, something small could break and as far as I’m concerned, that’s on the buyer. I feel comfortable that this would run through State Inspection in MD. It absolutely runs great. I highly recommend that you come and look at this and take it for a drive before purchase. There are absolutely no holds. If you are interested then it’s first come first served. I may hold 48 hours with a deposit but that will be on a case by case basis. A couple of items that need attention: I am going to have new brake pads put on the camper. That part is easyI charged the AC with updated 134 Freon and found out that the compressor was bad on my ac unit. I contacted the manufacturer and the AC unit is in stock . The total cost for inside and outside AC is less than $2000 and installation would be between $300 and $500. This can be done before the buyer picks it up or it can be done wherever you live. All information will be provided. This is for an original replacement unit. You can find and replace with a new aftermarket unit for much less, but that would be on you. This literally just popped up a couple of days ago. I have dropped enough money into this and figured I would wait to see if anyone really wanted this before doing any other additional work. The heat works great. After purchasing a BRAND NEW 1999 vehicle, I had to put about $12,000 into the vehicle over the last 2 years to get it to where it is today. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed learning about the ins and outs of what I’ve done to make this vehicle ready for the next person to enjoy a low mileage, good on gas, trouble free RV for a long time. Did I mention it only has 25,415 miles on it now. 🙂
