I am the builder of these modern reproductions of mid 1950’s mahogany runabouts that utilized modern materials and technology. They offers the wooden boat admirer the opportunity to own a beautiful wooden boat without the enormous maintenance requirements of the originals. There is no varnish to maintain as it is finished in clear coat epoxy. The modern Mercury 4 cylinder 3.0 Liter engine offers twice the power, half the weight, and 3 times the fuel economy of the originals of that era. The engine is compliant with California emissions standards. The hull is a seamless epoxy glass construction with 3/16″ mahogany planks bonded to it. Being seamless there is no need to soak it up in the Spring before use. Its deep V configuration achieves an easy plane and a smooth ride. The Alpha 1 outdrive provides appropriate trim at any speed. The boat is light enough so that anything can pull it, and its 16′ length and folding trailer tongue means that it will fit into most suburban garages without the need to rent a slip.
